About Mac

Mac has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mining Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Penn State respectively. He is experienced, responsive and a creative partner to our clients. He has the expertise and understands the technologies to turn challenges into opportunities.

He gained his experience working for 16 years in various roles in mining, construction and environmental services.

By keeping up with new industry methods and techniques, he continually finds innovative ways to apply existing technologies in novel ways. He contributes to clients’ success through service built on respectful partnerships and attentive service. He has gained extensive industry experience through various responsibilities and accountabilities that came with the roles he held working on two continents for tier 1 mining companies and one of the largest construction and environmental services company in the USA.

Throughout his career, Mac has committed to continuous learning and looking to incorporate new frontier technologies in his work. He believes a deep understanding of concepts, methods and techniques is the only way to compliment and leverage available technologies in a meaningful way to bring ideas from the brainstorming phase to robust execution plans.

Locations Worked – US

Stony Creek, Virginia:

  • Planning Engineer for the development of a feasibility study phase greenfield Heavy Mineral Sands project in North Carolina.
  • Developed a zero-based provision framework for rehabilitation of approximately 2,000 acres of disturbed mined land.
  • Selected Carlson as the flagship software for takeoff calculations and bulk earthworks planning.
  • Developed mine rehabilitation planning workflows in Carlson; from data collection, final landform design, takeoff calculations, data file delivery for machine control and grading performance audit in compliance with design.

Charleston, West Virginia:

  • Corporate planning support and end of month production reporting for 18 underground and surface coal mining complexes in West Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois.
  • Geologic modeling, mapping and generation of annual reserves and resource estimates for SEC 10K reporting for all operating mines and reserves.
  • Manage mine planning and design software licenses for all engineers in the company working at 18 different sites.
  • Develop planning work workflows, standards and procedures and train other engineers.

Des Moines, Iowa:

  • Drilling and borehole soil sample collection and testing.
  • Geotechnical field engineer focused on quality control for concrete works and deep and shallow foundations.

Locations Worked - Australia

Brisbane, Queensland:

  • Strategic planning for large 6.5 Mtpa metallurgical coal Longwall mine.
  • Annual reserves modeling and estimating for JORC and SEC 10K reporting.
  • Longwall mine layout options study for an Order of Magnitude study underground expansion to open cut mine.

Hunter Valley, New South Wales:

  • Developed conceptual study mine plans and options for brownfield steam multi-seam mining project targeting 4 coal seams including Longwall Top Coal Caving (LTCC).
